AHI Statement Regarding Senate Ag Committee Passage of Farm Bill

Statement of Martha Scott Poindexter, President and CEO of the Animal Health Institute

On Senate Committee on Agriculture Passage of the Farm Bill

I want to congratulate and thank members of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry for coming together to move the farm bill to the full Senate.

Notably, the bill includes the Healthy Dogs Importation Act, which is bipartisan legislation that will strengthen the ability of the U.S Department of Agriculture to prevent foreign animal diseases from entering the country.   By ensuring that all imported dogs must be current on their vaccination and parasiticide treatment status, the bill will protect both domestic pets and the livestock industry from exposure to pests and other diseases.

I urge the House and Senate to quickly work to produce a bill that can advance to the President’s desk for his signature.
