Advocating for Science-based Global Trade Policies
Animal health issues are increasingly global. Keeping animals healthy is a top priority for farmers and veterinarians; healthy animals mean a safe and wholesome food supply and in turn, healthy people. Farmers, veterinarians, animal medicine manufacturers, and policy makers all work together to ensure that people all over the world have access to safe food.
Global trade rules – laws, regulations, and standards – are used to protect the global food supply and to facilitate fair trade. The promotion and enforcement of global trade rules is fundamental to the success of our industry and the U.S. economy overall. It is important that science and risk-analysis serve as the basis for policy decisions. Without strict adherence to science-based risk analysis, policies can inadvertently hurt trade and limit the tools available to help veterinarians protect animal health.
