Recognizing One Health

November 3 marks the fifth annual One Health Day, a global campaign that brings attention to the need for a One Health approach to addressing the shared health threats at the human-animal-environment interface. One Health recognizes that humans, animals and our environment are deeply interconnected. For example, zoonoses – illnesses that can transfer from animals to people and vice versa – are a key One Health issue. One Health encourages society to look at these three areas – humans, animals, and environment – together and develop policies that take their complexities into account in order to deliver more effective solutions in the long-term.
