Creating a Disaster Preparedness Plan for your Pet

If disaster strikes, our pets are even more dependent on us than usual. With their health and safety in our hands, it’s important to create a disaster preparedness plan for your pets, just as you would your family. You can start by assembling an emergency kit that includes some of the following:

  • A carrier for each of your animals
  • Food and water for at least two weeks for each pet
  • Sanitation supplies: litter box, litter, and plastic bags, as appropriate
  • Medications for at least two weeks
  • Medical records, including record of vaccination for rabies and other diseases, prescription medications, and medical history.
  • Sturdy leashes or harnesses
