Vaccines are critical to preventing outbreaks

As public debate around vaccinations is amplified by a measles outbreak, some veterinarians say they’ve seen more pet owners skip vaccinating animals against illnesses such as canine distemper. “The fewer animals that are getting the vaccine, the greater the likelihood that you’re going to have a firestorm if something that is that highly communicable comes along,” says veterinarian Christopher Brockett, president of the New York State Veterinary Medical Society.
